Zamfara government imposes curfew in Kaura Namoda after death of Emir

The state government of Zamfara has announced a dusk to dawn curfew in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area for a duration of one week. This decision comes in the wake of the death of the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Mohammed Asha, from suspected Coronavirus (COVID-19) complications. The curfew is aimed at controlling the spread of the virus in the state, as the confirmed cases have risen from one to 12, with one fatality.

Governor Bello Matawalle, in a state broadcast, also ordered the closure of all places of worship and markets, except for those selling foodstuffs and medicals. The governor emphasized that the curfew was necessary due to the failure of residents to comply with social distancing directives and other safety precautions in their daily activities.

The state government has stated that the effectiveness of the curfew in Kaura Namoda will be reviewed after one week.
