Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi’s running mate, explains reasons for parting ways with President Buhari

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has revealed the reasons behind his departure from President Muhammadu Buhari, with whom he was once in the same political party, the Congress for Progressives Change (CPC).

Formerly a key member of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), Datti Baba-Ahmed was elected in 2011 to represent Kaduna North Senatorial District under the now-defunct party.

During a recent address in Kano, Datti explained that he and others parted ways with Buhari because over time, the President lost his ‘principles and bearings.’ He stated that this made it challenging for allies like himself to align with Buhari’s political philosophy and ideas.

He also urged Nigerians to ignore the recent remarks made by the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, who belittled the Labour Party (LP) by claiming they couldn’t mobilize 200 people in Kaduna State for a walk.

Defending his party, Datti Baba-Ahmed stated, “Even in this room, just before I stepped in here, I had shaken hands with over 200 persons.”

He also reportedly dismissed El-Rufai’s comments as unreasonable and unworthy of a serious response.
