Yola prison holds Late President Yar’Adua’s son for allegedly causing the deaths of 4 people

Aminu Yar’Adua, the son of former President Musa Yar’Adua, has been detained in prison for his alleged involvement in a fatal auto accident in Yola which resulted in the deaths of four individuals.

The 36-year-old Aminu, a student at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, is facing charges for causing death by dangerous driving on 23 June, 2021.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) presented in court by police prosecutor Insp. Zakka Musa, Aminu was accused of speeding and causing an accident which led to the deaths of four individuals from Sabon Pegi, Yola South Local Government Area, while two others sustained injuries.

The FIR stated, “Those that died in the accident were identified as; Aisha Umar (30), Aisha Mamadu (32), Suleiman Abubakar(2) and Jummai Abubakar (30), while, Rejoice Annu (28) and Hajara Aliyu(27) sustained injuries.”

Relatives of the deceased victims have demanded N15 million from Aminu as compensation.

However, Aminu denied committing the offense and objected to the allegations. Following a plea from Zakka to adjourn the case in order to prepare the case file for the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice, Magistrate Jummai Ibrahim granted the request and ordered Aminu to be held in prison until the case is resumed on 19th August, 2021.
