Yobe State-sponsored Students Graduate from Universities in India

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has expressed confidence that the 167 graduates sponsored by the state government will significantly contribute to the improvement of various sectors, particularly health.

According to a statement by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General of Press and Media Affairs for Buni, released in Damaturu on Saturday,

In 2020, the Yobe state government sponsored 233 students known as “Yobe scholars” to pursue specialized courses in India, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.

At the graduation ceremony held in five different Indian universities, the governor, represented by Speaker Buba Mashio, expressed his pride in the students’ achievements.

The graduates underwent training in various fields including medical laboratory science, pharmacy, radiology, physiotherapy, optometry, computer science, and engineering.

A breakdown of the sponsorship revealed that 63 students graduated from GD Goenka University, 73 from Integral University, and 22 from Kalinga University among others.

Currently, there are students still pursuing their studies in various universities such as DIT University, VGU University, and Glocal University, as highlighted by Mohammed.

The statement emphasized a significant increase in the number of optometrists and pharmacists trained by the state in recent years compared to previous years.

Governor Buni commended the graduates for their outstanding performance in examinations and urged them to remain dedicated in their future endeavors.

The Nigerian High Commission in India also praised the scholarship program initiated by the Yobe state government.
