Yobe Assembly initiates procedure for establishment of Hisba police

The bill seeking for the formation of Hisba commission in the State has received fast-tracked consideration by the Yobe State House of Assembly.

After extensive deliberations by the members on Wednesday, the bill, presented by the executive arm of government, passed the second reading on the House floor.

During the debate on the bill, Hon. Nasiru Hassan Yusuf, the Majority Leader of the House, highlighted that the establishment of the Hisba Commission would aid in the full execution of shari’a laws enacted by the House in 2000.

He also emphasized that the Commission would ensure the proper observance of Islamic shari’a teachings and take necessary actions to cleanse the society of all forms of social vices and crimes.

Urging members to support the bill due to its significance to the lives of the people of the State, the Leader of the House made the call.

In their individual contributions, Hon. Buba Ibrahim Kalallawa, Hon. Maina Digma Gana, Hon. Bulama Bukar, and Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello, representing Gujba, Damagum, Mamudo, and Damaturu II constituencies, respectively, strongly stated that the establishment of the commission would assist other security agencies in ensuring the proper enforcement of both civil and shari’a laws in the State.

Presiding over the session, Rt. Hon. Chiroma Buba Mashio, the Speaker of the House, assigned the bill to the House committee on Judiciary, Justice, and Religious Affairs for further legislative action. The committee is expected to study the bill and present its findings to the House within three weeks.
