At the kickoff of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Nigerian songstress Yemi Alade took the stage in a captivating performance.
The official Total Energies AFCON handle shared a video of her splendid performance, and captioned it as, “Amazing opening ceremony performance from #yemialadee.”
Prior to this, Yemi Alade expressed her anticipation on her social media account, stating that it had been her desire to perform at football ceremonies since 2016.
In a tweet, she shared, “I cannot emphasize the significance of prayer and speaking into existence your heart desires.
“Since 2016, I have yearned to perform at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and millions of people.
“I received many calls almost every year when football championship preparations were underway, but none materialized.
“I never voiced this, but at a certain point, I began to feel like my team was driving them away, but something urged me to let them do their job.
“7 YEARS LATER, I’M PERFORMING AT AFCON. IT’S TRULY AN HONOR, A DREAM COME TRUE ❤️ and it’s just the beginning!! God bless my team and most especially Jehovah; the captain of my ship that never fails.”
The tournament is being hosted by Cote d’Ivoire for the first time since 1984.
Reports indicate heavy traffic in the city of Abidjan as fans of various teams participating in the event have started to converge on the venue for the Group A opening match between host country, Cote d’Ivoire, and Guinea Bissau.
