World Health Organization Reports Over 775 Million Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

As of July 21, 2024, the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed more than 775 million cases and over seven million deaths globally due to COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic. This information was disclosed in a statement released in Abuja.

Within the 28-day period from June 24 to July 21, there was a 30% increase in new cases and a 26% increase in deaths globally compared to the previous 28-day period from May 27 to June 23. During this time, over 186,000 new cases were reported across 96 countries (41% of total) and more than 2,800 fatalities were reported across 35 countries (15% of total).

The WHO stated, “As of July 21, 2024, more than 775 million confirmed cases and over seven million deaths have been reported worldwide since the beginning of the pandemic.”

46 countries provided data on COVID-19 hospitalizations, while 35 countries reported admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) during the same period. The data showed over 23,000 new hospitalizations and more than 600 new ICU admissions.

According to the WHO, countries consistently reporting data across both periods experienced an 11% increase in new hospitalizations and a 3% increase in new ICU admissions.
