Woman Faces Death Penalty for Killing Husband in Kano

In a verdict handed down by Justice Ahmad Tijjani Badamasi of a Kano state high court on Friday February 21, a housewife named Rashida Saidu was sentenced to death by hanging for the death of her husband, Dr Adamu Ali, following an argument.

The prosecution counsel, Mariam Jilbrin, informed the court that the suspect engaged in a physical altercation with her 56-year-old husband at their residence in Dorayi Quarters approximately a year ago. During the altercation, she pushed him from a storey building, leading to his fatal injuries. Dr Ali was a staff member at the Federal College of Education, Kano.

Four witnesses testified against the suspect. However, her counsel, Illiya Dauda, refuted the allegations and presented two witnesses to challenge the accusation of responsibility for her husband’s death.

In his verdict, Justice Badamasi stated that the prosecution had sufficiently proven the suspect’s involvement in the death of her husband beyond any doubt.

Consequently, he handed down the death penalty by hanging as her sentence.
