Woman assaults male police officer and 2 policewomen in Oyo state

Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, expressed dismay over the attacks on police officers.

The IGP reacted to a video showing a woman assaulting the DCO II, Eruwa Police Division, ASP Adeyemo Ogunyemi, and commended his uncommon restraint and professionalism during the unprovoked attack. The incident took place on May 1, while Ogunyemi was carrying out COVID-19 enforcement duties at Gbolagunte, Okeola area of Eruwa, Ibarapa, Oyo state.

Adamu also revealed that the woman assaulted two female police officers, Inspr. Ojola Abiola and Inspr. Queen Eguaoje, and bit one of them on May 2 when they attempted to invite her to the police station for the earlier assault on the DCO.

The Police Chief condemned similar attacks on police officers in other parts of the country.

According to a statement by the Force’s Spokesperson, Frank Mba, the IGP commended the DCO II, Eruwa Police Division, ASP Adeyemo Ogunyemi, for his uncommon restraint and professionalism in the face of the unprovoked attack.

In the viral video, the woman, identified as Kehinde Afolake, was seen assaulting the police officer unchallenged and without retaliation while he was carrying out COVID-19 enforcement duties at Gbolagunte, Okeola area of Eruwa, Ibarapa, Oyo state on May 1, 2020. The officer did not fight back but maintained absolute calm, patience, and decorum even as the woman rough handled him and slapped him severally.

The IGP also directed the Commissioner of Police, Oyo Command, to conduct a discreet investigation into the attack on the police officers and ensure that justice is served.

The IGP urged citizens to cooperate with the police and other security personnel and comply with all COVID-19 prevention orders. He warned against unprovoked attacks and assaults on police officers, stating that perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law.
