Woman arrested for throwing her 5-month-baby into Ogun river

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 30-year-old mother, Oluwabunmi Ajayi, for reportedly tossing her five-month-old baby, Imole Anifowose, into a river at Sagamu.

Allegedly, the woman committed the act with premeditation, according to the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, who verified the incident. The arrest followed an attempted murder case on January 21, 2024. A witness who saw the suspect placing her child into the River reported the incident.

“The person who saw her dropping the child into the river raced to the river and rescued the baby from drowning,” stated the PPRO.

The baby was rushed to OOUTH for immediate medical care and examination, and reports indicated that the child survived the trauma. The apprehended woman is under observation to assess her mental well-being.

Efforts are being made to reach relatives or the husband to take custody of the baby in the hospital for proper care, added the police spokesperson.
