The search for Karen Solomon has ended with a tragic outcome. The Worcester Police, in Massachusetts (United States), have located a body that, according to initial investigations, corresponds to the 58-year-old woman who had been missing for six days and who was wanted in connection with the death of her husband, police officer Kurt Solomon.
The discovery occurred this Monday, August 24, in a wooded area located behind the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital in Worcester. Two center workers who were walking in the area found the body and notified the authorities. A weapon was also found near him.
What happened to Karen Solomon’s husband?
The investigation began on August 18, when emergency services went to the Solomons’ home after receiving a call about a medical emergency. There, Kurt Solomon, 57, a Worcester Police Department officer and 31-year veteran, was found dead. The police officer, who was off duty, had suffered a fatal injury caused by a sharp object.
The investigation led officers to focus their attention on Karen Solomon. The woman was last seen in security camera footage walking in the vicinity of the home shortly after emergency services arrived at the home.
The authorities then began a large-scale search of Worcester and its surroundings, with the participation of different police forces, drones and tracking dogs. Police even warned that Solomon could be armed and dangerous.
Who was Karen Solomon?
The case has generated a special commotion in the United States due to the profile of Karen Solomon. He was not a person foreign to the police world. For years he worked precisely in defense of the mental health of police officers and other emergency professionals.
Solomon was one of the co-founders of First HELP, an organization dedicated to supporting police officers, firefighters and paramedics, especially on issues related to mental health and suicide prevention.
Precisely because of this trajectory, the news has caused a strong impact among people linked to the US security forces.
A week marked by the search
After the death of Kurt Solomon, authorities deployed a major effort to locate Karen. The search was especially concentrated around Coes Pond, an area where she had been seen and where diving teams, dogs and drones came to intervene.
Finally, six days after her disappearance, two workers found her body in a wooded area near the Fairlawn rehabilitation center. Although authorities have indicated that everything points to a murder-suicide, the investigation continues to clarify exactly what happened at the couple’s home and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The Solomon family has expressed their shock at what happened and has thanked the work of the agents and all the people who participated during the days of searching.
At the moment, authorities consider that the deaths of Karen and Kurt Solomon are related and are working to reconstruct their final hours and determine what happened at the Worcester home.
