Wesley Fofana confirms the Chelsea squad forgives Enzo Fernandez for racism incident

Confirming the acceptance of an apology from Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez, Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana expressed that his teammate was unaware of the impact of his actions and has taken responsibility for them. The France international emphasized that Enzo did not have any malicious intent.

Following their victory in the 2024 Copa America, the Argentina team, led by Enzo Fernandez, engaged in singing racist songs targeted at French players, sparking controversy and calls for disciplinary actions against the midfielder by the Blues.

However, Fofana stated that the team has moved past the incident, saying, “Enzo has returned, and our conversation has brought resolution. I conveyed my concerns about the video, and he sincerely apologized, clarifying that his actions were unintentional and meant no harm to French fans or anyone else. I believe in his sincerity, knowing his character. It was an unfortunate video involving the Argentine team, not solely Enzo.”

Reflecting on the aftermath, Fofana remarked, “The incident garnered significant attention due to our shared team, but now that it is resolved, we are moving forward positively.”
