The Rivers State Government has cautioned fishing communities against consuming or selling dead fishes found floating in rivers of Finima in Bonny LGA and Oyorokoto in Andoni LGA.
The affected fish species is croaker, commonly known as ‘Broke Marriage’ and referred to as ‘Onah’ in Ibani dialect.
The Commissioner for Environment in Rivers state, Dr Igbiks Tamuno, has confirmed the occurrence and urged the people living in the affected communities not to consume dead fishes as the ministry plans to conduct a comprehensive investigation to identify the actual cause of the deaths.
Additionally, the Commissioner has dispatched a team to Bonny to promptly initiate investigations.
