Warning from Asari-Dokubo: Avoid Bringing Hunger Protest to N’Delta

Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, a former freedom fighter in the Niger Delta region, has cautioned against holding a planned nationwide protest on August 1st due to hardships. He specifically mentioned that the Niger Delta region should be excluded from the protest.

Asari-Dokubo criticized the protest organizers for not addressing the issues faced by Niger Delta residents and accused them of having ulterior motives related to exploiting the region’s resources. He labeled them as ‘anarchists’ and warned that any attempt to bring the protest to the Niger Delta would be met with resistance.

During the Niger Delta Sensitization Conference for Ethnic Nationalities, Youths, and Women in Port Harcourt, Asari-Dokubo emphasized his stance against participating in any protest activities. He asserted that he has the right to resist protests that do not align with the interests of the Niger Delta.

He pointed out the opportunistic nature of some individuals supporting the protest, implying that it may be politically motivated to undermine the current government. Asari-Dokubo urged the people to be wary of such agendas and not allow themselves to be manipulated for external interests.

Referring to previous protests against leaders from the southern region, Asari-Dokubo highlighted the need for the Niger Delta’s specific concerns to be addressed in any protest demands. He cautioned against being swayed by rhetoric and emphasized the importance of focusing on tangible impacts on society and local communities.

Asari-Dokubo also scrutinized the lack of essential services like hospitals in certain areas of the Niger Delta, emphasizing the longstanding neglect of these critical infrastructure needs. He criticized those who exploit protest movements for personal gain without genuinely serving the nation’s interests.

In light of recent events in Imo State where violence erupted, Asari-Dokubo underscored the need to resist any attempts to incite chaos and destabilize the region. He made it clear that he would not tolerate disruptive protests that pose a threat to the safety and well-being of the community.

Asari-Dokubo concluded by urging those who have faced electoral defeats to prepare for future elections instead of resorting to disruptive tactics. He emphasized the importance of patience and democratic processes in bringing about political change.
