Warning from Arewa stakeholders about potential protest in Nigeria

Concerned with the upcoming nationwide strike set for August 1, 2024, the Arewa Stakeholders Forum is cautioning Nigerians against participating.

Instead, they are advocating for ongoing discussions with the Federal Government and other involved parties to address the current challenges facing the country.

Following a meeting at the Arewa House Center for Research and Historical Documentation in Kaduna, Prof. Shuiabu Aliyu released a statement urging Nigerians to prioritize dialogue in resolving issues.

Addressing the prevalent social issues such as hyperinflation, unemployment, and hunger, the Forum emphasized the need for exploring alternatives to protests.

Aliyu highlighted the consequences of similar protests in countries like Venezuela, Yemen, Syria, and Sudan, where destructive outcomes resulted in loss of lives and displacement of millions.

Pointing out that civil strikes are often manipulated by individuals with ulterior motives to destabilize the government, Aliyu stressed the potential dangers that such unrest could bring.

He cited the tragic events in Sudan, where over 150,000 individuals lost their lives, and more than two million were displaced due to the impact of the protests.
