Visit of Adeleke to Erin Ijesha waterfalls in Osun amidst concerns

Osun State has been in the spotlight recently due to concerns about the deteriorating condition of the Erin Ijesha Waterfalls. Governor Ademola Adeleke, in response to this, made a surprise visit to the tourist spot on Wednesday.

The purpose of the visit, as explained by his Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals and Multilateral Relations, Bamikole Omishore, was to conduct an immediate assessment of the situation.

Omishore shared a video on X.com, stating, “Governor Ademola Adeleke made an impromptu visit to Erin Ijesha Waterfalls on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, for an on-the-spot assessment.”

In the video, Adeleke, while on-site, urged the youth to collaborate, emphasizing forthcoming meetings with the community and potential investors to ensure the site’s improved functionality.

An individual recently visiting the area expressed concerns over the state of the Erin-Ijesha Waterfalls and urged the government to take immediate action towards its preservation and conservation, citing environmental degradation, erosion, and lack of maintenance.

In response, the state government unveiled plans to enhance various tourist sites, including the renowned Erin Ijesha Waterfalls.

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment in the state, Kolapo Alimi, stated that Adeleke directed the acceleration of existing renovation efforts for the Erin Ijesha Waterfalls. This includes establishing a tripartite committee to oversee the site’s management, among other initiatives.
