Violence Erupts in Nasarawa: Five Arrested in Lafia Protest

On August 1, the capital of Nasarawa State, Lafia, became a hotbed of unrest as a large group of predominantly young individuals and underaged children came together to express their grievances in the #EndBadGovernance protest.

What started as a peaceful demonstration in the morning took a turn for the worse later in the day when protesters started gathering near the Government House, prompting security forces to step in swiftly.

Uniformed officers intervened to disperse the demonstrators who were advancing towards the seat of government, holding placards with various complaints and frustrations.

Despite efforts to quell the unrest, some protesters moved into Lafia town, setting fires and causing minor damage, including vandalizing vehicles at the state’s APC office.

Although tension lingered in the air, there were no reports of injuries or looting during the chaos.

However, law enforcement took action by apprehending five individuals in the state capital for their alleged involvement in inciting violence.
