Violation of Lockdown Order: Pastor, Imam, and 27 Others Arrested in Lagos

29 worshippers were arrested in Lagos for violating the Federal Government’s directive against congregational worship, as stated by the Lagos state police.

Both Christian and Islamic clerics, along with their congregants, were apprehended at different locations in the state while conducting congregational services. They were paraded on Monday, May 11, at the Command headquarters in Ikeja.

Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, disclosed that 40-year-old Islamic cleric Rasheed Jimoh and others were arrested in a Mosque at Olushi, Lagos Island, on May 9, 2020, at around 1:13 pm.

A 61-year-old Pastor, identified as Apostle Sherperd Moses Peter, was among 16 others apprehended at Christ Desire Sabbath Mission, Olodi, Apapa, while conducting a congregational service.

Odumosu stated, “They were arrested while holding congregational prayers in violation of the government’s order. In a related development, on the same date at about 1600hours, Policemen on enforcement duty from Tolu Division arrested a Christian Cleric, Apostle Shepherd Moses Peter ’61 years old’, and 16 others in Christ Desire Sabbath Mission, Olodi, Apapa, holding a congregational service.”

In his defense, the Pastor claimed he was at the church to distribute palliatives to his members to alleviate the effect of the lockdown.

The police commissioner confirmed that the offenders will soon be charged to court.
