Vice President Shettima Stresses Importance of Safeguarding Sultan of Sokoto

During the North West Peace and Security Summit in Katsina State, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the crucial need for the Sokoto State government to protect the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar.

Shettima hailed the Sultan as a symbol of not just Sokoto but of a greater idea and institution that demands vigilance and support from all Nigerians for the nation’s progress.

Referencing the recent concerns raised by the Muslim Rights Council (MURIC), Shettima highlighted the significance of safeguarding and preserving the Sultan’s position and influence in the country.

MURIC had voiced apprehensions about a purported plan to remove the Sultan from his role, asserting that Nigerian Muslims would strongly oppose any such action.

The Executive Director of MURIC, Prof. Isiaq Akintola, cautioned against any hasty decisions that could jeopardize the Sultan’s leadership, stressing the religious and national importance of his position.

These statements come amidst growing concerns about the security and stability of the Sultanate, prompting calls for heightened protection and support for one of the country’s most revered traditional and spiritual figures.
