Vanity fair journalist under fire for derogatory comments about Blue Ivy’s appearance

A Vanity Fair writer is facing criticism for his disparaging remarks about the appearance of Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Jay-Z and Beyonce.

Vanity Fair film critic K. Austin Collins made derogatory comments about Jay-Z and Beyonce’s 7-year-old daughter following photos of Blue Ivy and Beyonce with Meg Thee Stallion.

In a now-deleted tweet, he wrote: “I have a feeling the Jay-Z face genes are about to really hit Blue Ivy and I feel so sorry for her.”

Journalist Violet Lucca, from Harper’s Magazine, responded to Collins, stating: “Or she’ll just get plastic surgery at 16 a la Kylie Jenner and we’ll all have to pretend that she always looked that way. I can’t allow myself to feel too sorry for the incredibly rich!”

Following backlash, Collins deleted the tweet and issued an apology, saying: “I’m sorry about the Blue Ivy tweet — bad joke, and black girls, in particular, deserve better.”

However, his apology did not quell the outrage on Twitter as users continued to call him out.
