Urgent Call for Action: High Rates of HIV and Infectious Diseases Among Adolescents


Expressing deep concerns, the Centre for Integrated Health Programs (CIHP) highlights the hurdles faced by adolescents, with a significant portion enduring elevated levels of HIV, infectious diseases, mental health challenges, substance abuse, and barriers to reproductive health services.

In a press release endorsed by Dr. Bolanle Oyeledun, the Chief Executive, the group emphasizes the need for experts to convene and deliberate on the vulnerabilities confronting this crucial segment of society, emphasizing the urgency of addressing their healthcare needs.

The statement underscores the societal oversight toward this important demographic within the nation’s population and stresses the necessity for sustainable strategies to equip and empower them.

Stating, ”Adolescence signifies a transformative phase of life characterized by substantial physical, emotional, and social transformations. In Nigeria, adolescents and young individuals grapple with a multitude of obstacles such as high rates of HIV and other infectious diseases, mental health issues, substance abuse, and restricted access to reproductive health services.

”The upcoming roundtable conversation will concentrate on identifying enduring approaches to empower adolescents through STEM education, vocational training, and leadership initiatives. Participants will delve into the capacity of technology in augmenting health interventions and advocating mental well-being within the youth demographic.
