Update on Imo Building Collapse: Three More Bodies Recovered, Mother and Children Still Trapped

Following the collapse of an 8-storey building under construction in Owerri, the Imo state capital on Thursday April 30, three more bodies have been recovered. The collapse occurred at approximately 4pm while artisans were still working.

One body was found shortly after the incident, with three more bodies being recovered later by rescue workers, bringing the death toll to 4.

Reports indicate that a woman who sold consumables to the workers on the site is trapped under the rubble alongside her two children.

Rescue efforts are underway to free those still trapped in the building, with twelve individuals having been rescued thus far.

Meanwhile, the state government has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse. It has been reported that the owner of the building did not receive approval to construct a skyscraper on the land.
