UPDATE: Nigerian Government Takes Action Against Sponsors of EndBadGovernance Protest

Reports have emerged that the sponsors of the #EndBadGovernance protests in Nigeria have been placed on a watchlist by the government.

During a strategic meeting held at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Services, Kemi Nandap, announced this development. The meeting was chaired by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.

Nandap mentioned that these individuals, who are currently in the Diaspora, will face immediate arrest upon their entry into the country.

Following a directive from President Bola Tinubu, the Defence Chief along with intelligence and security agency heads convened for a closed-door meeting to discuss the implementation of the crackdown order.

When questioned by journalists after the meeting, Nandap stated, “We have individuals sponsoring from the Diaspora, they are under surveillance. If they attempt to enter the country, appropriate actions will be taken.”

In response to the ongoing protests, the Immigration Service has increased the number of officers at land borders and airports to better manage the country’s entry and exit points.

The agency has also enhanced its surveillance to prevent external interference in the nation’s affairs.

The Director-General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, revealed that some sponsors have been identified, but refrained from providing further details.

Represented at the meeting by the DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, Bichi mentioned that certain bank accounts linked to the sponsors have already been frozen. Moreover, the activities of those operating these accounts from overseas are being closely monitored.
