Update: Negative Test Result for Family Member of UK Returnee, the Third Coronavirus Case in Nigeria

Providing the latest update, Ayo Alaba, President of Birdsview Group, mentioned that the individual who had returned from the UK and tested positive for coronavirus had been residing with a member of his company’s staff since Saturday March 14. This continued until Tuesday morning when the test results were released.

Upon receiving a notification about a potential COVID-19 exposure among their staff, they took immediate and drastic actions. These included locking down the office building, ceasing business operations, and mandating monitored quarantine for all employees who may have come into contact with the affected staff.

Ayo revealed that a staff member who had close contact with the infected family member had tested negative for the virus. He also mentioned that they would implement further preventive measures to thoroughly disinfect their Ikeja office building on March 18.

He further stated:

Responding to the notice received by our HR unit regarding potential COVID-19 exposure among our staff, our business promptly implemented measures such as locking down the office building, suspending business operations, and enforcing mandatory monitored quarantine for employees who could have been in contact with the affected staff. Our business has been operating in emergency mode and preparing for all scenarios.

I can now confirm the positive news that our staff tested negative for the virus early this morning. While this is a significant relief for Nigeria and Nigerians, it underscores the pandemic’s severity and should not be underestimated by anyone for any reason.

We express solidarity with everyone battling the virus, particularly our staff member’s cousin who recently tested positive. We hope they find the strength to endure the waiting period for the virus to run its course.

Looking ahead, we will take additional precautions to disinfect our Ikeja office building today, March 18, ventilate it tomorrow, and resume normal operations on Friday. We prioritize health and safety and will spare no effort to ensure our staff and clients are always in peak condition.

Stay safe and healthy as we unite to overcome COVID-19 together.
