Union Bank’s Commitment to Environmental Preservation

Encouraging sustainable environmental practices for the betterment of our planet, Union Bank has emphasized the importance of preserving and restoring the earth.

This message was conveyed during a collaborative event with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation to observe the 2024 World Environment Day.

Held at the Lekki Conservation Centre in Lagos, the program brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including environmental advocates, global partners, corporations, government entities, and students from selected secondary schools to discuss and participate in World Environment Day activities.

At the event, Patricia Iwhewhe, Union Bank’s Head of Citizenship and Sustainability, underscored the significance of environmental preservation.

In her address, she stressed the urgency to address land degradation and erosion, highlighting that these issues cannot be overlooked by stakeholders and policymakers.

Emphasizing Union Bank’s dedication as a sustainability advocate, Iwhewhe stated, “We all share the responsibility to protect and nurture our environment. Union Bank will continue to engage in initiatives aimed at safeguarding and enhancing our ecosystem.”

A key highlight of the event was a collaborative tree-planting activity involving participants and representatives from various stakeholders.

Aligned with this year’s theme, ‘Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,’ the tree-planting initiative aimed to promote the rejuvenation of land impacted by deforestation, erosion, and desertification globally, with a specific focus on Nigeria.

Since its inception, the Nigerian Conservation Foundation has been a leading advocate for nature conservation and resource protection.
