UNIBEN Takes Action Against Sexual Harassment Allegations

The University of Benin has initiated an investigative committee led by Vice Chancellor Professor Lilian Salami to look into accusations of sexual harassment involving a faculty member from the Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts.

In a circular issued in Benin City, Barrister B.D. Jonathan, the committee’s secretary, announced the establishment of the committee and called on staff and students to share any information or personal experiences related to the allegations.

The committee stressed the importance of providing relevant details to support their thorough and unbiased investigations in fulfilling their mandate.

To ensure confidentiality, Jonathan assured that the identities of the individuals sharing information would be protected and all details treated with the utmost privacy.

Following a social media post by a university graduate accusing the professor of past misconduct during her time as an undergraduate student, the university management decided to take action by forming the investigative committee.
