Umuahia Chamber of Commerce denies splinter group

The president of the Umuahia Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, UCCIMA, Chidi Aruoma, has disowned a group known as the Umuahia Chamber Movement, saying that it allegedly forged its logo and letterhead to perform a trade exhibition in Umuahia.

In a press statement he made available to journalists in Umuahia, the UCCIMA President alleged that promoters of the Umuahia Chamber Movement invited some officials of the Abia State Government and investors to the meeting and exhibition without his knowledge and consent as the state president.

Aruoma, who threatened to take legal action against anyone who uses the logo and letterhead of UCCIMA without the authentic body’s approval, made it clear that there are no crises in the chamber he leads.

According to him, the names of those who attended the said meeting in Umuahia are not in the register of UCCIMA, even though he maintained that UCCIMA has no affiliate body in Abia or any other part of the country.

Aruoma noted that groups or individuals are free to register another chamber of commerce and compete with the existing one, but not to use the logo and letterhead of a duly registered body like UCCIMA.

He therefore cautioned the Abia State government, particularly the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, about the activities of the business group.
