Analysis of UCL Match: Martin Keown and Owen Hargreaves Criticize Arsenal Player for Missed Opportunity

During the recent clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final, former Arsenal player Martin Keown and ex-Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves expressed disappointment over Gabriel Martinelli missing a crucial chance.

The second leg of the quarter-final took place at the Allianz Arena following a 2-2 draw in the first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Early in the game, Martinelli had the chance to put Arsenal in the lead after a setup from Martin Odegaard.

Opting to shoot with his left foot, Martinelli’s attempt was comfortably saved by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Reflecting on the missed opportunity, Martin Keown, speaking on TNT Sports, remarked, “Positionally, Martinelli was in a great spot. However, one wonders why he didn’t use his stronger right foot in that situation.”

Hargreaves chimed in, stating, “If he had the chance to take it back, I believe he would have used his right foot. It’s always better to use your dominant foot in such instances.”

“While his intention was to ensure a shot on goal, ideally, he should have utilized his right foot. I believe that would have resulted in a goal,” Hargreaves added.
