Two suspects charged in connection with socialite’s death in Ondo

Following the death of a well-known socialite, Mr. Oladoyinbo Adebayo, also known as Say Bayo, the Ondo State Police Command has brought two individuals, Adeniyi Atinuke and Ade-Ojo Isaac, before a Chief Magistrate Court in Akure.

The deceased was discovered lifeless in his car on December 10, 2023, at Ijapo Estate, Akure. Subsequently, the defendants were apprehended and charged in court. They appeared in court on Friday to face the allegations.

They are accused of committing a felony, specifically “perversion of justice,” which is an offense contrary to section 126 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. Vol.1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

According to the prosecution, Atinuke is alleged to have “become an accessory after the fact with regard to the death of one Oladoyinbo Sunday Adebayo ‘Alias Say Bayo’ and thereby committed an offence contrary and punishable under section of the Criminal Code Cap.37 Vol.1 Law of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.”

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Wada Simeon, sought the court’s permission to withdraw his earlier application to detain the defendants in the correctional centre in Akure.

Upon withdrawing the application, Mr. A.O Afolabi, representing the first defendant, Adeniyi Atinuke, submitted a bail application for his client, assuring that she would appear in court on every adjournment date.

Likewise, Mr. Stephen Ademuagun, representing the second defendant, submitted a notice for the client’s bail application, pledging that the defendant would not abscond. The prosecutor did not oppose the bail applications.

The magistrate, Chief Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, scheduled a ruling on both bail applications for January 29, 2024, and adjourned the case to that date.
