Two people who defied coronavirus lockdown orders in Rwanda shot dead by police

According to Rwanda National Police spokesman John Bosco Kabera, two individuals who were in their twenties were fatally shot by the police for resisting lockdown orders imposed by the government to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Reportedly, the two men “attempted to tussle with officers,” as stated by Kabera in a phone interview with Bloomberg on Wednesday.

Rwanda initiated a two-week lockdown on March 22, which included restrictions on intercity and town travel, urging citizens to remain indoors. The country’s measures are regarded as some of the most stringent in Africa.

As of now, Rwanda has reported 40 confirmed cases of Covid-19.
