Tragedy sets in again in Mexico after two students from the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos (UAEM) have been shot dead in Cuernavaca, as reported this Sunday by the state Attorney General’s Office.
The event occurs fifteen days after the femicide of the Spanish Claudia Tacoronte, who was on an academic exchange in this state in central Mexico.
According to authorities, the attack occurred on Saturday night, when several armed men shot at the young people on the main avenue of the Chulavista neighborhood and subsequently fled the scene. The attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. and left two dead and one person injured.
There are no arrests yet
According to police sources, the investigations are progressing but there are still no arrests related to the attack and the motive is unknown. For its part, the UAEM has confirmed that the deceased belonged to its community and has demanded a prompt and exhaustive investigation.
The Prosecutor’s Office has assured that it will exhaust all lines of investigation to clarify what happened, although for the moment it has not offered more information about the circumstances of the double murder or the possible perpetrators.
Two weeks after the murder of Claudia Tacoronte
This new murder occurs two weeks after the crime of Claudia Tacoronte, a 21-year-old student who landed in Morelos in August for a stay at the UAEM.
The judge linked a man who had attacked the student to steal her phone to the femicide trial. However, this was not the first time something of this caliber had happened.
The university community had already staged protests and a prolonged strike this year over the femicides of Kimberly Joselin Ramos Beltrán and Karol Toledo Gómez, two 18-year-old students murdered a few days apart between February and March.
