Two kidnappers killed in Kogi, rifle seized

In Ankumi forest, Obajana, the Kogi State Police Command has eliminated two suspected kidnappers.

SP William Aya, the Public Relations Officer of the command in Lokoja, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

“As part of the ongoing crackdown on banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in Kogi State, the Nigeria Police Force operatives stationed at the Obajana Division, in collaboration with Fulani vigilantes, acted on a tip-off received on May 27, 2024, around 11:30 am, indicating the presence of three armed criminals in Ankumi forest,” Aya reported.

Upon receiving the tip-off, the DPO, CSP Oguche Richard, swiftly mobilized his patrol team and the Fulani vigilantes to the area by 2:30 pm. The criminals opened fire on the team upon sighting them, leading to a gun battle.

“Due to the superior firepower of the police team, two of the criminals were fatally wounded, while the rest managed to escape with injuries.”

The items recovered from the scene included an AK-47 rifle with two magazines and two live rounds. Authorities are currently pursuing the fleeing suspects.

“CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, psc (+), the Commissioner of Police, praised the officers for their relentless dedication in maintaining the momentum of the campaign against crime and criminal activities.

He assured the state’s residents that the police force remains resolute in collaboration with other security agencies to uphold public safety and protect lives and properties in the state,” he reiterated.
