Tragic Accident Claims Two Lives in Ogun State

Tragedy struck as two individuals lost their lives, with three others sustaining injuries in a horrific accident that took place around 8:24 pm near Ogbere Junction on the Ijebu-Ode-Ore-Benin Expressway.

The fatal victims were reportedly trapped inside one of the vehicles involved in the collision.

The incident, believed to be caused by route violation and excessive speeding, involved a DAF truck bearing the number plate AYE886ZQ and a Volvo truck with the number plate MUS246YH.

Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, revealed these details in a statement provided to the press on Saturday.

Okpe confirmed that the three injured victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, while one of the deceased victims was taken to the hospital’s morgue.

The second deceased individual’s body was released to their family for final rites.

A segment of the official statement read, “FRSC Ogbere Outpost Command conducted a rescue mission late last night on Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway after Ogbere Junction, responding to a crash that happened at approximately 2034hrs.

“Two vehicles were involved in the crash; a DAF truck with the license plate AYE886ZQ and a Volvo truck with the license plate MUS246YH.

“Among the five male adults involved, three sustained injuries, while the other two tragically lost their lives, being caught inside the vehicle.

“The injured victims received medical attention at State General Hospital, Ijebu Ode, and one of the deceased individuals was handed over to their family, while the other was taken to the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode.

“The likely causes of the accident were identified as route and speed violations.

“The collision blocked the expressway, prompting a temporary diversion of traffic from inbound Benin to outbound to avert any further accidents or secondary crashes.”

Despite this, Sector Commander Anthony Uga expressed deep concern over the rampant instances of motorists flouting speed limits, leading to fatal accidents.

Uga emphasized that controlling excessive speed, a known human factor, is crucial and should not exceed the designated limits.

He also mentioned that the corps marshal has mandated the installation of speed limit devices in all commercial vehicles to reduce frequent road tragedies.

Uga urged motorists to adhere to prescribed speed limits and respect road signs to mitigate the daily loss of lives on Nigerian roads.
