United States President Donald Trump declared on Saturday that Cuba wants to reach an agreement and is negotiating with him and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
In his speech at the ‘Shield of the Americas’ meeting of Latin American leaders in Miami (Florida), Trump stated that Cuba was “at the end of the road”, in its “last moments of life”, but that they wanted to negotiate.
“They want to negotiate, and they are negotiating with Marco (Rubio), me and some others. I think it would be very easy to reach an agreement with Cuba,” he said.
Official recognition of the Government of Delcy Rodríguez
The president also said that this week he formally recognized the Government of Delcy Rodríguez in Venezuela, by reestablishing diplomatic relations between both nations.
Likewise, he warned that he “will not allow foreign influence” in America as part of his new doctrine, “which includes the Panama Canal,” which he declared his “favorite canal” in the presence of the Panamanian president, José Raúl Mulino.
“We are going to allow hostile foreign influence to establish itself in this hemisphere, that includes the Panama Canal, which we have talked about. We are not going to allow it,” Trump said in his inaugural speech of his ‘Shield of the Americas’ initiative before more than a dozen Latin American leaders, such as Mulino.
“I’m not going to learn your damn language.”
Before a dozen Latin American leaders, the president joked that he had no intention of learning to speak Spanish: “I’m not going to learn your damn language,” he said, laughing.
