Troops rescue 8 victims kidnapped by herdsmen in Benue

On Saturday, February 19, troops from Operation Whirl Stroke, OPWS, made a significant achievement by rescuing 8 individuals from a kidnappers’ den as part of the intensified fight against criminality in Benue State.

The rescued locals, hailing from Agasha town in Guma local government area, were abducted by herdsmen on their farms on Wednesday, February 16th, 2022, and had spent over three days with their abductors before their liberation.

Lt. Col Paul Hemba (rtd), the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, briefed the Governor on the successful rescue operation and highlighted the gallantry of Operation Whirl Stroke troops. He explained that the troops engaged the kidnappers at Gbekyor, leading to an exchange of gunfire and overpowering the perpetrators.

He emphasized that the superior firepower of the soldiers overwhelmed the kidnappers, causing them to flee in disarray, abandoning the kidnapped victims.

The individuals rescued by the soldiers are Philip Akpage (56 years old), Aondokula Ijah (30 years old), Mrs Kwadoo Takada (60 years old), Mrs Kwakuma Asongu (55 years old), Mrs Agnes Ornguze (54 years old), Mrs Yanguchan Tiv (45 years old), Mrs Kwadoo Mtomga (45 years old), and Mrs Mnembe Terlumum (30 years old).
