Doumbouya, a military officer, has held the position of interim president since October 1, 2021. He rose to power after leading a coup d’état on September 5, 2021, successfully overthrowing the previous president, Alpha Condé. A former French legionnaire, Doumbouya is affiliated with the Guinean Special Forces Group.
