Training by Army Enhances Financial Management Skills for Defence Ministry Staff

Financial management and work ethic skills have been imparted to senior staff of the Ministry of Defence in Nigerian Army establishments by the Nigerian Army Finance Corps.

Maj. Gen. Adetokunbo Fayemiwo, the Chief of Accounts and Budget (Army), made this known during the third edition of a three-day financial management training held at the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration in Arakan Barracks, Lagos State.

The aim of the financial management training, according to a statement by NAFC, is to enhance the collaboration between military and civilian staff of the Ministry of Defence in alignment with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff and to bolster the country’s security architecture.

Represented by Brig. Gen. Abubakar Maikan, the Commander of the Command Finance Office, Fayemiwo highlighted that the training was tailored to elevate the proficiency of senior MOD staff in strategic-level financial management, equipping them with the necessary expertise to tackle financial management challenges and office administration issues.

He emphasized the need for synergy among sister services, para-military and security agencies, and other stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence and the supervising ministry.

Fayemiwo stated, “The seminar/training is crafted to enhance the capabilities of senior officers by fostering sharp minds, analytical skills, and adaptability to fulfill financial, administrative, and military duties in line with the Ministry of Defence’s goals.

“My mission, in alignment with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff—to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-equipped, highly motivated force to fulfill its constitutional duties within a joint setting—is to establish a proactive and proficient corps providing financial services to support the Nigerian Army in executing its defense missions for Nigeria.

“This mission aims to promote transparency in all Nigerian Army financial dealings, enhance compliance with regulations, and reduce waste in defense spending.”

During the closing ceremony, Brig. Gen. Basharu Aminu, representing Fayemiwo, stressed that the training, consisting of six lectures, offered participants a comprehensive understanding of the latest trends and best practices in public finances and fostering positive workplace relationships.
