Tragic Road Accident Claims 11 Lives and Leaves Eight Injured in Abia

Authorities at the Federal Road Safety Corps, Abia State Sector Command, have confirmed a devastating road accident that took place at Arungwa Village, opposite Arab Contractors Construction Company on the Port Harcourt-Enugu Expressway.

The verification came through an official statement released by Corps Commander Ngozi Ezeoma.

In the statement, it was disclosed that “The crash involving a Nissan Caravan commercial bus with registration number SSM 320 ZR, white in color, was carrying 19 passengers (eight adult males and 11 adult females) on their way to Enugu. The bus collided with a HOWO commercial truck with registration number T2828LA, colored yellow.

“A combined rescue team from FRSC RS 9.31 Aba and RS 9.32 km78 Aba Unit Commands promptly arrived at the crash site within five minutes of being informed, and rescue operations were swiftly carried out.

“At the time of the accident, 10 individuals (five adult males and five adult females) sustained injuries, while nine occupants (four adult males and five adult females) tragically lost their lives on the spot. The injured persons were rushed to a hospital in Aba, whereas the deceased were taken to the mortuary in Aba.

“After following up on the crash victims at the hospital, it was regretfully discovered that one adult male and one adult female passed away this evening, with one victim being referred to the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.

“In light of this recent tragedy, the death toll stands at 11 individuals (five adult males and six adult females), with eight persons (four adult males and four adult females) confirmed to have suffered injuries.”

Preliminary investigations suggested that the primary cause of the accident was attributed to excessive speeding.
