Tragic news: Abducted Sokoto monarch passes away while in captivity

Reports indicate that the abducted District head of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Isa Bawa, has tragically lost his life while being held captive.

An official confirmation of this heartbreaking development was provided by the lawmaker representing Sabon Birni North in the State House of Assembly, Almustapha Boza, who shared that the team tasked with delivering the ransom demanded by the bandits discovered Bawa’s lifeless body.

Boza revealed that upon their return, the team brought back only Bawa’s son, as the district head had already been laid to rest by the time they reached the location.

Sharing the devastating news, Boza stated, “Yes, I can confirm to you that he is dead, they have killed him.

“Even those who went there to deliver the ransom couldn’t meet him alive. They only came back with his son who was abducted together with him and we are on our way to the hospital now for treatment,” Boza narrated.

Prior to his demise, the lawmaker had mentioned, “We have agreed on N60 million and brand new motorcycles as ransom. What delayed the delivery was the specification of the motorcycles demanded which is popularly known as Boko Haram.

Boza added, “We have gotten the motorcycles today but unfortunately, the bandits did not call the person they were communicating with. They normally call twice in a day; 8 am and 5 pm but today, they have not called throughout.”

Attempts to reach out to the Public Relations Officer of the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmed Rufai, were unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

Before his untimely passing, the 74-year-old monarch had appealed to the Sokoto State Government and well-wishers for assistance.

In a 59-second video circulating on social media, Bawa made a plea for his release from the clutches of his abductors.

He had been abducted alongside his son, brother, and six others while traveling on the Sokoto – Sabon Birni Road.
