A Kenyan woman, Winfred Nduku, 24, reportedly stabbed her 2 and 6-year-old children to death and attempted suicide after a confrontation with her mother.
The tragic incident took place at her mother’s residence in Kayole, Nairobi, on Saturday night, as confirmed by a police spokesperson at the Kayole Police Station to Kenyans.co.ke.
According to reports, the altercation between Nduku and her mother, with whom she lives, led to the devastating events.
Recounting the incident, Nduku’s mother, Josephine Wambua, tearfully explained, “She was seated playing on her phone when I asked her to attend to the children and ensure they had something to eat before using her phone.”
“She ignored my request, and after I repeated it, she threatened to harm her children, grabbed a knife, and carried out the act,” she added.
After stabbing the children, Nduku apparently tried to attack her mother but only managed to inflict some cuts on her right hand during the struggle before being overpowered and ejected from the house.
Reportedly, Nduku then attempted to take her own life with the same knife, stabbing herself in the stomach. She and her children were rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital, where the children were pronounced dead on arrival.
At present, Nduku is undergoing treatment at Mama Lucy Hospital and will face legal charges upon discharge, as stated by Nairobi Police commander Philip Ndolo.
