Tragic Incident: Man Fatally Injured by ‘Armed’ Chicken at Cockfight in India

Unexpectedly, a 55-year-old man met his demise when a sharp blade attached to a rooster inflicted a fatal wound to his abdomen during a cockfight in India.

Despite being prohibited by the Supreme Court, the distressing event occurred in Pragadavaram village in West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, the organizers affixed the razor-sharp blade to the rooster’s leg.

The victim, who was also part of the organizers, was holding the rooster, preparing to release it into the arena. However, the rooster struggled, causing the blade to fatally pierce the spectator’s abdomen, resulting in a fatal wound.

The deceased, identified as Saripalli Venkateswara Rao, 55, has been reported by local media.

This incident follows the ban imposed by the Supreme Court of India on cockfighting, deemed a violation of the 1960 Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Prior to the ban, ten individuals were injured in Kavvagunta village in West Godavari District, and two in Chintam Palli village during cockfighting.

In India, cockfighting is a traditional part of the festivities for Makar Sankranti, a Hindu festival dedicated to the deity Surya. This year, Makar Sankranti was celebrated on January 15.
