Tragic Incident in Edo Community as Herders Take Life and Cause Injuries

Herders kill one, injure others in Edo community

The unfortunate event in Sobe community of Owan West Local Government Area, Edo State, witnessed the loss of a driver, Ome Osesa, and left several others injured, following an attack by suspected herdsmen.

 

This incident marks the seventh targeted attack on the community, resulting in a total of five casualties, including a pastor and his two workers. The ongoing violence is a serious concern for the people in the area.

 

According to a source from the community, the assailants raided the home of the deceased on the evening of Monday, March 27, and indiscriminately opened fire, causing harm to Osesa and others.

 

A community member expressed deep distress over the lack of timely intervention during and after the attacks, emphasizing the urgency for effective security measures.

 

Another resident highlighted the inadequacy of the newly established police divisional headquarters in preventing the repeated assaults on the community.

 

The community seeks assistance from Governor Godwin Obaseki to collaborate with the Federal Government in establishing a mini barracks in the area, out of concern for the escalating violence.

 

In response to the persistent attacks and fatalities, enraged youth from the community staged a protest on the morning of Tuesday, March 28, blocking the Benin-Akure expressway.
