,

A tragic incident occurred in southern Afghanistan on Saturday, resulting in the loss of two U.S. service members’ lives and leaving two others injured. The U.S. military has confirmed that their vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb, causing this devastating outcome.

The casualties occurred during operations as part of NATO’s Resolute Support mission in Kandahar province. Officials have stated that the names and additional biographical details of the service members will be disclosed 24 hours after notifying their next of kin.

Qari Yusouf Ahmadi, a spokesperson for the Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack in southern Kandahar province, specifying that the bomb detonated near Kandahar airfield in the morning.

This tragic event follows the departure of U.S. Ambassador John Bass from Kabul last week, concluding his two-year tenure as America´s top diplomat. It also coincides with heightened tensions in the region, marked by the recent deployment of over 3,000 U.S. troops to the Middle East after the U.S. airstrike that resulted in the death of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, orchestrated by President Donald Trump.
