Tragic Incident: Electrocution of a Man in Benue State

A young man identified as Inalegwu Major was found lifeless on a transformer in Otukpo, Benue State. Onlookers gathered at the major highway to witness the tragic scene.

The man allegedly tried to vandalize a transformer belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company near the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office in Otukpo.

Witnesses suggested that he might have been electrocuted in the process of attempting to vandalize the transformer.

An individual known as Sunny reported spotting the body hanging on the transformer around 5:00 am one Saturday. This discovery led to a commotion as more people gathered at the site.

Sunny narrated, “The lifeless body on the transformer was first noticed by a passerby at 5:00 am, prompting a crowd to assemble and witness the event.

A local resident mentioned that the victim was a known cable vandal who had managed to remove some cables before the electricity supply was restored.

Dr. Adakole Elijah, the Head of Corporate Communication at the JED company, expressed surprise that the victim could access the transformer despite security measures in place.

He remarked, “The transformer was well-protected on a pole, so it is baffling that someone attempted to climb it.

“It seems like a deliberate act of vandalism. His intentions must have been malevolent, leading to this tragic outcome.”

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, for comments were unsuccessful as her phone remained unanswered.
