Tragic Incident at Cake-Eating Competition on Australia Day

On Australia Day, a tragic incident occurred during a cake-eating competition. A 60-year-old woman passed away while participating in a lamington and pie eating contest in Hervey Bay, Queensland.

 

The event, held at the Beach House Hotel, turned fatal when one of the contestants, enjoying a lamington, suffered a seizure and choked amidst the enthusiastic audience.

 

Upon the distressing occurrence, the bar’s security and staff promptly intervened, administering CPR until paramedics arrived to transport her to Hervey Bay Hospital, where she ultimately succumbed.

 

The Beach House Hotel expressed their condolences in a statement released the following day.

 

The statement read: “The management and staff of the Beach House Hotel offer our deepest condolences to the friends and family of one of our patrons following the tragic event at our venue on Australia Day.

 

“We acknowledge and thank our supportive patrons, staff, and the Queensland Ambulance Service for their prompt and professional response while this tragic incident was unfolding.

 

“The hotel staff have been offered professional support while our thoughts firmly remain with the family at this challenging time.”
