Tragedy Strikes as Plane Carrying 62 Passengers Crashes in Brazil

Tragedy struck on Friday as an airplane carrying 62 individuals crashed in Sao Paulo state, Brazil, according to firefighters and the airline Voepass.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, while speaking at an official event, mentioned that although an official death toll has not been released, it seemed unlikely that there were any survivors.

During a speech in Itajai, Santa Catarina state, Lula stated, “A plane has crashed in Sao Paulo’s city of Vinhedo, claiming the lives of 58 passengers and four crew members.”

The flight was en route from Cascavel in southern Parana state to Sao Paulo’s Guarulhos international airport.

Voepass issued a statement reporting “an accident involving flight 2283.”

The statement added, “There is no confirmation yet on the cause of the accident or the status of the passengers and crew.”

Local media broadcasts displayed images of a large plane rapidly descending and a substantial column of smoke emerging from the crash site within what seemed to be a residential neighborhood.

The Fire Department of Sao Paulo posted on the social platform X: “Aircraft crash, 7 teams engaged, only this information available at the moment.”

Vinhedo, with a population of approximately 76,000 residents, is situated around 80 kilometers (50 miles) northwest of Sao Paulo.
