Tragedy on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Truck

A tragic incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a truck, loaded with goods, tragically crushed an unidentified man to death along Lenuwa Village corridor.

Reportedly, the accident took place on a Sunday at approximately 9:55 am when a Mitsubishi truck bearing the number plate KTU209YF veered off course and struck a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk.

An eyewitness, known as Moses, recounted that the truck, en route to Ibadan, lost control at high speed and collided with the pedestrian.

Describing the incident, Moses said, “The speeding truck lost control abruptly and collided with the man walking on the sidewalk, propelling him into a ditch beside the highway.”

Moses also mentioned that both the driver and the motorboy sustained injuries as the truck overturned multiple times before hitting the pedestrian. They were promptly taken to the hospital for medical care,” Moses disclosed on Monday.

Addressing the situation, the state Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, verified the unfortunate event and confirmed the pedestrian’s demise.

She stated, “The driver and motor boy suffered injuries. The driver was en route from Lagos to Lenuwa Village on the Motorway, towards the Ibadan section of the road. The investigation revealed that the driver, presumed to be driving recklessly, lost control of the vehicle, leading to the accident.

“The trio – driver, motorboy, and pedestrian – sustained injuries and were rushed to a Sagamu hospital for treatment. Regrettably, the pedestrian was pronounced dead by the attending physician shortly after admission. The deceased’s body has been retrieved and placed in an Idera hospital morgue.”

PUNCH Online had reported on Christmas Day in 2019 about an incident where a Honda Sport Utility Vehicle, allegedly moving against traffic on the Ibafo section of the highway, struck and killed two pedestrians while injuring three others.

The Honda Element SUV, bearing registration number KSF 946 DB, reportedly hit the two waiting pedestrians, who were preparing to board a commercial bus, resulting in their immediate deaths.
