This is not the first sinkhole tragedy in China. In 2016, three people fell into a massive sinkhole in central Henan province, which swallowed a section of road and bystanders. Additionally, in 2013, five individuals lost their lives when a 10m (33ft) wide sinkhole appeared at the entrance of an industrial estate in Shenzhen.
