Exciting News: Training Program for Tour Operators and Guides in Ekiti State

In an exciting collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Tourism and the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, a special training program is set to take place for tour operators and guides in Ekiti State. This initiative is part of the EcoGenesis Incubator Series.

Initiated by the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, the EcoGenesis Incubator Series is a sustainable tourism entrepreneurship program designed to benefit residents of tourist host communities. This includes women, youths, and small cottage services that contribute to the overall experience for visitors.

This program, currently in its second edition, is being rolled out across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

According to a statement released by NIHOTOUR’s spokesperson, Joesef Karim, the training sessions will take place from March 31 to April 2, 2024, in Ekiti.

“The Ekiti State Bureau for Tourism Development will oversee the training and select local tour operators and guides to participate.

“Following the success of the first EcoGenesis Incubator training in Makurdi, Benue State, this upcoming training in Ekiti aims to build on that momentum,” Karim mentioned.

Addressing the importance of the EcoGenesis Incubator training in Ekiti, Ade-John emphasized the need for government support in providing training opportunities and upskilling for personnel in the tourism sector.

“The competence of tourism and hospitality operators in host communities, including tour operators and guides, plays a vital role in shaping the overall experience for tourists, both local and international.

“Hence, it is crucial for the government to facilitate essential training, continuous education, and skill development for personnel in the sector nationwide.

“Through the EcoGenesis Incubator Series, the government aims to create a dynamic platform that encourages innovation and promotes economic empowerment for citizens and service providers within tourism host communities and destinations.

“This initiative is expected to alleviate poverty by leveraging the abundant tourism opportunities embedded in communities nationwide.”

The Director General of NIHOTOUR, Nura Kangiwa, highlighted the significant role played by tour operators and guides in driving tourism development on a global scale.

“Tour operators and guides are key players in crafting the destination’s tourism appeal worldwide.

“Their actions influence tourist traffic and revenue generation in host communities.

“Tourism products, whether for domestic or international markets, are largely shaped by the efforts of tour operators and guides within the destination.”
