Top 20 LGAs in Nigeria with the Highest Covid-19 Cases

A recent report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has indicated that 11 out of the 20 local government areas, accounting for 60% of COVID-19 cases, are located in Lagos State.

 

The report, obtained over the weekend, revealed that Lagos Mainland council has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 1,274. 

 

Following Lagos Mainland are Abuja Municipal council with 536 cases, Mushin Local Government Area in Lagos with 458 cases, Eti-Osa Local Government Area in Lagos with 403 cases, and Tarauni in Kano State with 248 cases of COVID-19.

 

The report also highlighted that 7,276 confirmed cases (74%) have unknown sources of exposure, indicating heightened community transmission.

 

The report was shared before the confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country surged to 10,578, following the NCDC confirmation of 307 new cases on Sunday night and 416 new cases on Monday night.

 

Males accounted for 67% of the cases, while females accounted for 33%.

 

According to the NCDC, 3,122 patients have been discharged so far, and 299 deaths have been recorded.

 

Lagos, the epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic, recorded 192 cases while other states reported: Edo (41); Rivers (33); Kaduna (30); Kwara (23); Nasarawa (18); Borno (17); FCT (14); Oyo (10); Katsina (seven); five each in Abia and Delta; Adamawa and Kano (four each); Imo and Ondo (three each); two each in Benue, Bauchi, and Ogun; and a case in Niger.

 

As of Monday, June 1, only Cross River State had not recorded a confirmed COVID-19 case.

 

The report also stated that the Cases Fatality Rate (CFR) is at three percent.

 

The 20 councils and the number of cases reported are: Mainland (1,274), Abuja Municipal (536), Mushin (458), Eti-Osa (403), Tarauni (248), Katsina (242), Alimosho (239), Maiduguri (167), Kosofe (175), Dutse (170), Ikeja (168), Nassarawa (152), Oshodi/Isolo (132), Apapa (131), Amuwo Odofin (129), Oredo (126), Bauchi (114), Lagos Island (111), Surulere (110), and Ado Odo/Ota (107).

 

Addressing this on Monday, the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 control, Boss Mustapha, stated that Nigeria is yet to reach the “peak” of infections.
